Leading Textbook Author Dr. Ron Larson Set To Debut Free Online Textbook

By andYOU.com

Austin, Texas, November 10, 2011 --- Dr. Ron Larson, author of over 30 math textbooks that are used by over 5 million students annually, will debut his latest textbook titled "Math & YOU: The Power & Use of Mathematics" at this week's AMATYC conference, which runs today through Sunday at the Hilton Austin.

The book will be available online free of charge thanks to advertisements being run on the site. The online version features a commenting section as well as the ability to share pages of the book on Facebook and Twitter. The comment section will allow students the unique opportunity to communicate directly with the author of the textbook.

"Usually a textbook author's job is done after the book is written, but with ‘Math & YOU' I'll always be available to answer student and teacher questions. I'll be monitoring the comments two or three times a week and we have other employees available to assist with any questions students may have about the material," said Larson.

"Math & YOU" is a quantitative literacy textbook that covers topics such as fitness, advertising, and buying a home in order to teach students the importance and relevance of learning and understanding math.

"I don't think enough emphasis is placed on this type of math: everyday math. We focus too much on technical math, and frankly, a lot of students won't need to know calculus or advanced algebra as much as they'll need to know how to pay taxes and estimate their gas bills," said Larson.

"Math & YOU" is the first book offered in the "&YOU" series, a new series of liberal arts themed textbooks that will be available online at no charge and offline for an affordable price. Larson is currently seeking authors to write textbooks on other subjects.
